Dangerous Thunderstorms Threaten New England

After a brief break from severe weather, Mother Nature will deliver potent thunderstorms to portions of New England tonight.
A low pressure system moving across the southern Hudson Bay into Quebec will drag a cold front across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic tonight. This front separates very warm and humid weather from warm but less humid air filtering in behind it. The collision of these two air masses will be where strong to severe thunderstorms will be most likely to fire up tonight.
The best chance for severe weather will be centered over western New England to the Hudson Valley tonight. This includes Concord, N.H., Springfield and Boston, Mass., New Haven, Conn., and Providence, R.I. The main concern with thunderstorms that develop tonight will be damaging wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph. However, large hail and an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Boston and Springfield, Mass., as well as Concord and Nashua, N.H.
Be sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning, should any be issued. A watch means that all the ingredients for severe weather to take place are there, while a warning indicates that the severe weather has already formed, and you should take action to keep your friends and family safe.
Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather updates and alerts! This could include a weather app, local news channel, or a weather radio.
