WeatherBug Backyard Weather Station Support

Below are answers to some common questions about the WeatherBug Backyard Weather Station. If you do not see your question here, please fill out a Support Request Form or visit the WeatherBug Forums.

How can I or others see my station in the Backyard Network?

If you own a Personal Weather Station (PWS), you can set this station to be your default station on the home screen of your WeatherBug, for the PC directly connected to the station, only. This is the only station where the PWS data can be set to show on the home screen of WeatherBug.

However, you and any other WeatherBug user can also view your station as part of our Backyard Network.

Simply click the Travel Weather button, then the Backyard Network tab, and enter the ZIP Code or city name in the windows at the bottom of the screen, then click Go. You should then be able to view your PWS station in the list of local stations that make up our Backyard Network.

Thank you for joining our Backyard Network!

My weather station data is not showing properly.

Below are some steps you can take to get your weather data to show in WeatherBug.

  • Make sure the console is connected to your computer
  • Make sure you installed the latest version of WeatherBug Backyard software. This is on the CD included with the station.
  • Close Publisher if still running.
  • Baud Rate Checkup
    • In your console, press the Done button with the Plus button
    • Wait until the station number appear and press once the Done button
    • Keep pressing the Done button until you get to the Baud Rate value.
    • If different from 19,200 use the left/right arrows to set rate to 19,200.
    • Press and hold the Done button until the console's standard display appears.
  • Communication checkup
    • Open WeatherLink and go to Setup- Communication Ports
    • Click the Auto Detect button.
    • Was the station port detected? What is the port name?
  • Time & Date Checkup
    • If a station is detected in 1 above go to Setup- Set Time & Date.
    • Is the date and time accurate?
    • If not, set to current date and time.

Also, please note that you cannot simultaneously run WeatherLink and WeatherBug Publisher- you will need to only run Publisher during those times you wish to publish your weather data to the Backyard Network.

How do I set my personal station to show on the homescreen of my WeatherBug?

Once you have downloaded WeatherBug desktop application and inserted the code on the back of your CD to get the Plus version (no ads showing, etc.), click the CHANGE LOCATION link near the top. You should then see a window with a blue "MY STATION" button near the top- click this and then click Set Location at the bottom of the window and the new home station of your WeatherBug will be YOUR backyard weather station.

If you want your friends and family to see your station, have them click the Travel Weather button on the left side of the main WeatherBug screen and then click the Backyard Weather tab. Enter YOUR home ZIP Code or city name, click GO and look for your station's name in the list to view your weather backyard weather data.

How can I join The Backyard Network

If you have an interest in purchasing a weather station, you may want to visit our partner Ambient Weather at: http://www.ambientweather.com/weatherbug.html

I already own a Davis weather station- can I still join the Backyard Network?

If you have a Backyard Weather Station, you can easily join the WeatherBug Backyard Network by visiting our partner Ambient Weather and purchase their Virtual Station Software (http://www.ambientweather.com/virtualstation.html). If you have Davis Weather Station, you can also download the WeatherBug Publisher software here.

When I click the More Observations link, none of my station's data shows?

The "More Observations" link on the main screen of WeatherBug is only for our 8000 regular stations, not the Backyard Network stations. It shows additional data on our network of stations such as sunrise/sunset, barometer, rainfall, moonphase, etc.
